After a Difficult Year and Coronavirus Surge, Queen Elizabeth Is Still Hoping to Spend Christmas Alongside Family

Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that the Queen has regretfully canceled plans for her traditional festive lunch at Windsor Castle for fifty family members.

“Like everyone else the Queen’s plans have been thrown into chaos, but one thing is for sure, Charles will make sure she is not on her own this Christmas.

However, if the Christmas celebrations are scaled back, there will be fewer settings at the dining table to make sure that the Queen and her loved ones stay as safe as possible.

Traditionally the royals arrive on Christmas Eve in order of seniority in time for tea and to help the Queen dress the Christmas tree in the great hall before a candlelit supper where they enjoy a turkey with all the trimmings and open Christmas presents.

In a year marred by lockdowns, family fall-outs and a challenging, ongoing court case for Prince Andrew, sources close to the monarch, who is still grieving Prince Philip, say that 2021 has taken a toll on the Queen, who has not been seen in public since October 19th when she attended a reception at Windsor Castle.

Royal watchers will be hoping the Queen and the royal family will still attend Christmas mass on December 25th, but the church service at St.
