B.C. Climate News: Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions rose in 2021 – Vancouver Sun

Scientists studying hares in Canada’s Yukon Territory have discovered that climate change is delaying their ability to turn white from brown in the fall, which could put the ecosystem at risk.

The panel has issued a “code red” for humanity and last year it said the window to stop global warming from exceeding 1.5 C was closing.

The annual inventory of Canada’s emissions for 2021, published Friday, showed emissions from all sources that year added up to 670 million tonnes.

A recent annual report notes British Columbians are making the switch to zero-emission vehicles faster than anywhere else in Canada, with over 18 per cent of all new light-duty vehicles sold last year being electric.

It will help to build 250 more light-duty fast-charging stations, part of a plan for a complete electric highway in every corner of the province by 2030.

It shows that as the region has warmed, hares are waiting longer to turn white from brown and that those with more brown fur than white in autumn were less likely to survive the winter.

“Practically everything eats snowshoe hares in the boreal forest.

Some cereals need to be “written off” in the prime growing regions of Andalusia, Castilla La Mancha, Extremadura and Murcia, and are likely to be lost in the driest areas of three other regions, according to the report.

Nuts and vineyards are also struggling, and olives will be badly affected if rain does not arrive in the next few weeks, the report stated.

Bradfield City Centre is under construction on an expanse of dirt and scrub about 35 miles west of Sydney’s central business district and harbourfront, neighbouring a new international airport that is set to open in 2026.

Backed by A$1 billion from the government and more from a slew of international firms, it’ll be home to technology companies, colleges, and further down the line, apartments and houses.
