Council to mull rules aimed at reducing election sign clutter | Calgary Herald

Among the changes proposed by city administrators is increasing the distance between signs belonging to the same owner to a minimum of 30 metres, up from the currently legislated 20-metre separation.

To target repeat offenders, those with a second conviction within 24 months would face a doubled fine, and the fine would triple for a third violation.

Very few people typically face fines for violating the temporary sign bylaw, however.

Hundreds of used signs are thrown away following elections, the city said, ending up in landfills.
