Montreal drug trafficker to have new trial after plea bargain fails

Gabriel Darveau, 35, of Montreal pleaded guilty March 15, 2021, to nine counts of drug trafficking.

As part of an agreement he reached with the prosecution, Darveau planned to also plead guilty in a case involving drug trafficking at federal court in Ontario.

Five months after he pleaded guilty in the case at the Montreal courthouse, Darveau was sentenced to a five-year prison term on Aug.

Due to administrative problems, the transfer was only made on Oct.
