Nearly 30000 potholes filled on Edmonton roads so far in 2023

Crews have so far filled 29,833 potholes in 2023 as of April 1, about 10,000 fewer than the same time last year, according to data provided by the city.

Complaints about potholes are down dramatically from last year and significantly lower than those that came in over the last three years.

By around the same time last year, 40,583 holes had been filled.

Repairs happen year-round, work picks up after the annual spring road sweeping that kicked off April 6, which removes debris and dust from roadways, bike lanes and other major pathways.

How they are ranked depends on the type of road and how busy it is, the size and severity of the hole, and where they are located on roads themselves — holes in the wheel path would be fixed sooner.

The goal is to inspect high-priority potholes within a day and repair them within two days, while less serious potholes should be inspected within five days and can take up to one month to fix.
