Severna Park baseball suffers more postseason heartbreak, falls to Sherwood 5-4 in extras in 4A title game

“It feels good,” said Sherwood coach Sean Davis, who knows somewhat of Severna Park’s pain as his squad fell to Old Mill in the 2019 state final.

Herz helped supply that 2-0 third-inning lead and break up what was a dominant start by both Severna Park ace Nick Carparelli and Sherwood’s Brett Seils with a come-backer to the mound with the bases loaded.

A dropped ball in center and an infield hit with first base left uncovered on ball hit between first and second base plated the other two runs.

Staring at their first deficit of the postseason, the Falcons responded with two runs in the bottom half of the fifth on a two-run single to right-center field off the bat of Herz to score two runs.

The Falcons had Anne Arundel County’s best offense, averaging 9.56 runs per game, and the best pitching staff and defense and allowed just 31 runs in 17 games.
