The disaster has united Somalis, with President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed of Somalia reaching out to Somaliland leader Muse Bihi Abdi in a rare phone call between the two.
Despite lacking international recognition, Somaliland has maintained its own independent government, currency and security system.
